How to Make a Pirate Ship
There are many different types of materials you can use to make your own DIY pirate ship. From cardboard to crayons, there’s a medium for everyone.
When we were making ours we discovered that using a printable pirate ship template like the one below made it super easy for kids of all ages. Having that basis for the boat just made it a lot easier for everyone to manage.
While you could print out this template and trace the pieces on cardboard, we found that a cardstock papercraft pirate ship was the best option for us. If you want something a bit sturdier though, go for the cardboard or heavier cardstock – just be sure to help little ones cut it out!
Printable Pirate Ship Template and Craft
Ages: 3+
Time: 30 minutes
Materials
- Pirate Ship Printable Template <– DOWNLOAD THE FREE TEMPLATE HERE
- Construction Paper
- Glue
- Scissors
- Markers
- Pencils
- Ruler
Directions:
Step 1: Print out and trace the pieces of the pirate ship template. Cut out the pieces for the ship.
Step 2: Glue the blue rectangular piece (waves) horizontally on the tan base of the boat.
Step 3: Glue the two masts that were cut from brown construction paper to the boat.
Step 4: Glue the pirate skull to the black flag. Attach it to the top of the front mast.
Step 5: Glue the three remaining white flags onto the mast with one below the pirate flag and two on the second mast.
Step 6: Glue the 3 circular pieces on the bottom part of the ship to make the windows.
Step 8: Use a black marker to add details to the windows and anywhere else on the ship that you’d like to emphasize.
